Bridging the cosmic infrared background to the X-ray background

چکیده
We estimate the contribution of AGNs and of their host galaxies to the infrared background. We use the luminosity function and evolution of AGNs recently determined by the hard X-ray surveys, and new Spectral Energy Distributions bridging the X-ray and the infrared emission, divided in intervals of absorption. These two ingredients allow us to determine the contribution of AGNs to the infrared background by using mostly observed quantities, with only minor assumptions. We obtain that AGN emission contributes little to the infrared background (<5% over most of the infrared bands), implying that the latter is dominated by star formation. However, AGN host galaxies may contribute significantly to the infrared background, and more specifically 10–20% in the 1–20μm range and ∼5% at λ < 60μm. We also give the contribution of AGNs and of their host galaxies to the source number counts in various infrared bands, focusing on those which will be observed with Spitzer. We also report a significant discrepancy between the expected contribution of AGN hosts to the submm background and bright submm number counts with the observational constraints. We discuss the causes and implications of this discrepancy and the possible effects on the Spitzer far-IR bands.

متن کاملSYNTHESIS, X-RAY CRYSTAL STRUCTURE AND IR STUDY OF NEW TRINUCLEAR, BASE CARBOXSYLATE COMPLEX OF [Cu3O(OAc)6(H2O)3]Cl.CH3OH.6H2O
The synthesis of [Cu3O(OAc)6(H2O)3]Cl.CH3OH.6H2O is described. The X-ray crystallographic study of thecomplex revealed an isosceles triangle of copper atoms with a triply bridging oxo atom nearly in the plane of thetriangle. The coordination sphere around each metal center is close to distorted octahedral and the central{Cu3(μ3-O)} core is planar. Every two copper atoms were connected to each o...
متن کاملOn the Contribution of Agn to the Cosmic Background Radiation
We present the results of calculations of the cosmic AGN background spectrum from 3 keV (4 × 10μm) to 1000μm. These computations make use of the measured X-ray luminosity function and its evolution, as well as fits from synthesis models of the cosmic X-ray background (CXB) to predict the AGN contribution to the cosmic infrared background (CIRB) for different models of the location and distribut...

We use the new results of the HEGRA detector on the TeV γ–ray emission from Mrk 501 to set upper limits on the energy density of the cosmic infrared background (CIRB). The measured γ–ray spectrum extends beyond 10 TeV and appears to be unattenuated in γγ collisions with the low-energy CIRB photons. The upper limits on the CIBR intensity are thus quite strong and come close to the observational ...
متن کاملUnderstanding the Spectra of TeV Blazars: Implications for the Cosmic Infrared Background
With the arrival of powerful, ground-based γ-ray detectors, we can now begin to seriously probe, via simultaneous X-ray/TeV observations, the origin of the γray emission in the blazars Mrk 421 and 501. If the synchrotron-Compton emission model turns out to work, then we know that the same electrons are responsible for both the X-ray and the γ-ray emission of these objects. In this case, we show...
